Apostol Petkov

Apostol Petkov (May 6, 1869, Boymitsa, today in Paionia, Greece - August 2, 1911, Giannitsa, today Greece) was a Bulgarian revolutionary and one of the leaders of the national liberation movement in Aegean Macedonia.〔(Христо Силянов.
Petkov was often referred to by his admirers as ''the Sun of Yenice-i Vardar''.
He is considered ethnic Macedonian in the Republic of Macedonia. He was a leading ''komitaji'' in the armed units of the Bulgarian Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Committees and took part in the battles against the Ottoman authorities as well before the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising as after it.〔(Дино Кьосев и Ламби Данаилов. 142-143. )〕
Later, Petkov was one of the organizers of the military struggle against the Greek interests in Macedonia - still under Ottoman rule, but with both sides trying to fortify their positions in the area in anticipation of the impending end of the Ottoman rule.〔Πηνελόπη Δέλτα. "Στα μυστικά του Βάλτου", 1937.〕 Petkov was killed, under unclear circumstances, in battle against Turkish gendarmes on August 2, 1911.〔Мария Атанасова. 191.〕
